More Woes For Teddington School Re-Build

The accident-prone Teddington School re-build is facing new problems. A doom-laden report to Cabinet presents the latest news of cost-overruns and delays in the starting date.

Opposition Deputy Leader Councillor Geoffrey Samuel said: “The earliest date for the start of the project start has now been deferred again until August. The Council accepts that the final figures may well be even greater than the £32m previously agreed. Where will the money come from? More borrowing and the cancellation of other vital projects”.

Ward Councillor Pat Parsons – thinking of the delays in the Avenue Centre – said :”This dilatory routine has become the norm for the LibDem Administration, with flagrant misuse of taxpayers’ money, causing frustration and dismay for School Staff, Governors and all those locally concerned” Feelings are running high.

Ward Councillor Tony Arbour put it clearly: “Councillor Knight’s incompetence has betrayed the school, pupils and residents”. What will be the final cost?

Councillor Samuel concluded “As I said in the budget debate, there is in this Council neither the willingness nor the ability to keep costs under control”.

Councillors Welcome New Kings Field Pavillion

Hampton Wick Councillors are delighted that the new pavilion in Kings Field has been completed. The rebuilding of the pavilion - derelict for twenty years – gathered momentum when local Councillor Pat Parsons, together with the Richmond Youth Partnership, began to push the project forward. “I am so glad the pavilion is ready to open to the community.

The best part of the project has been the involvement of young people” explains Councillor Parsons: “they worked closely with the architect on all aspects of the design.” “And, of course, we hope they will continue to be actively involved in running and looking after the pavilion from now on” adds Councillor Tony Arbour. The pavilion, which includes a café, has been designed to be a multi-use facility and will have specific times set aside for young people. “But we would like to see it used by the whole community” says Councillor Gareth Evans: “for example, the pavilion is connected to the toddlers’ play area, so it will provide a great place for parents as well”.

 Wishes Won By The Wick

Hampton Wick residents have won a partial victory in their campaign for the control of speeding in their ‘village’. The Hampton Wick Association collected 200 signatures for a 20mph limit along the High Street which is the main gateway from Teddington to Kingston and beyond.

Hampton Wick Councillor Pat Parsons said:” I am delighted that a speed activated flashing sign is to be installed adjacent to the Post Office. It is disappointed that sight lines do not permit another on the opposite side. This is intended to slow the approach speeds of vehicles heading towards Kingston.

For many months there has been massive public concern about the speed of traffic. Last year, on behalf of local residents, I presented to the Council the petition. I am glad to have worked with the Residents on this campaign. We will continue to monitor road safety.”

Hampton Wick is truly an urban village with a strong Neighbourhood Watch and Residents’ Association ably led by Chris Drayson and his resourceful committee whose team effort produced this result.  Although we are at the edge, Hampton Wick is an exemplar for the entire Borough”.

 Hated Bus Lane to Return?

The council has asked Transport for London to review the Borough's bus lanes.

In the case of the Kew Bridge Bus Lane the council asked for it to be looked at - them bizzarely campaigned against it. They claimed it was defeated and now allow work to continue behind the scenes. The hated Upper Teddington Road bus lane could return in the same way. London Assembly Member, Tony Arbour will resist this.
