Concern over the new plans around Richmond Station has increased so much that taxi drivers have offered to let the buses take over their rank just outside the station for a month to see whether a bus stop will work there.
“The council insist they have modelled the changes carefully and there is room for two large vehicles to pass between the stationary buses at the new stops on either side of the road “ said ward Councillor Pamela Fleming. “But they said the same about the width between new bollards recently installed in Castlenau and drivers were scraping their cars and losing wing mirrors trying to squeeze between them.
"The trouble is that modelling makes no allowance for human error or the fact that some of us are better at judging widths than others. A month’s trial would let us see what traffic problems it causes before wasting money on expensive changes.
“With so much opposition it is arrogant of the Lib Dems to refuse a consultation and provided work has not started, if Conservatives win control of the Council on May 6th we will consult residents and businesses and listen to what they say” |
